The Most Beautiful Thing we can Experience is the Mysterious
2013. Found Atlantic Ocean plastic flotsam, acrylic paint and chalk on plywood. 105cm x 105cm. Six paintings in series.
Over five days, working from sunrise and into the early night, a collection of ocean flotsam washed up upon a remote Atlantic Ocean beach in England was transformed into a raw new material through a process of fire, time, gravity and physical interaction with the material. Notions of transformation and transmigration were explored, and new material forms were found and discovered into a new visual language that had a direct communication with the ever changing dynamics of the ocean and environment. An exploration into the spirit of an object and its potent sense of animism, together with the limits of painting and the active process of pushing a found ocean object into new slippages where the object and subject relationships fuse as one.
