Something Between Them
2013. Black and white super 8mm projection, two 8mm projectors, silent. 9:39 minutes at 6 frames per second. Silent.
Two 8mm films were made during two different winter storms, one in the Pacific Ocean, Taiwan and the other in the Atlantic Ocean, England. In each film, a solitary rock mass pushes out of the ocean. The two oceanic rock masses, deeply imbued with a profound sense of mysticism, time and spirit exist side by side in the film projection. Something Between Them explores the notions of exploration and discovery, the spirit and animism of objects, of presence and absence, of two oceans, two storms, two places in this universe pulled together for the first time - there is something between those dark, wild rocks where one ocean merges into another, where the rock mass in the Pacific now stirs with the waves and energies of the other rock mass in the Atlantic.
