Found Dory

2020. Found helium balloon, sand and puncture repair kit. Variable dimensions.

On the 19th of September, 2020, I found a beautifully coloured helium balloon, shaped as Finding Dory, that had come down in the mountains of the Peak District in England. For some reason, I was touched by the romantic and unknown story of this object, who had let it go, the point of departure from that person, the moment when the balloon disappeared from their view, and then, by chance, came into view in my world of perception and being.

Like a taxidermist, I filled the balloon with sand from the beach, and patched it up with puncture repair patches. Found Dory becomes a relic which lives on, with its grounded mass of millions of grains of sand, which for me draws on the very existence of life in all its fragility, passage, elevation, journey and eventual disappearance over the horizon only to then be seen on someone else’s horizon.
