A Transmission with the Force

2013. Steel, aluminium, water from Atlantic Ocean and metal detector. 275cm x 110cm.

247 small metal balls orbit around a satellite dish that has been subjected to months of dynamic activity while being moved around the intertidal zone on an Atlantic Ocean beach in England. It is felt that this inanimate aluminium satellite dish has become imbued with something from the sublime. Each storm, each full moon, each high tide and low tide, the satellite dish in its lone existence drifting around has become a sum of all these oceanic and celestial actions and happenings.  The small metal balls orbit around this intangible energy field and becomes charged with something profound in doing so.  From a distance, a metal detector makes contact with this force and translates this energy and mystical matter into a faint hum and sound.
