9 Islands
2020. Giclée prints framed in walnut frames. Variable dimensions. 9 photographs in series.
9 Islands is a project of selected islands I made in August at low tide along Swansea Bay in Wales in response to the escalating changes to our perceptions and sensibilities to space and place, time and being. Temporary constructions of sand and clay and lasting moments or up to an hour or two at most between the changing tides, these personal monuments were ephemeral healing places and shelters of reflection and personal protection.
Now transformed back into the environment from which they came, the islands live on as photographic memories of a place and time now gone, but deeply within our collective global history and for the tides and times ahead us.
Images above show installation of 9 lslands, the 9 islands as individual images and a photo taken by myself making one of the islands.
